Linux Mint 9 Xfce Final Released
The Linux Mint team has gotten another flavor of its latest release out the door. Linux Mint 9 Xfce is now deemed ready for a wider audience and has shed the 'release candidate' label.
New features include a new software manager and backup tool, common to all Linux Mint 9 releases, but also specific changes like "move to trash" and "delete" options for the Thunar file manager.
"Based on Xubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, Linux 2.6.32, Xfce 4.6.1 and Xorg 7.4, Linux Mint 9 'Isadora' Xfce features a lot of improvements and the latest software from the Open Source World," the Linux Mint 9 team announced.
"Featured improvements in this release: 30,000 applications catalogued and reviewable both online and in the new software manager, brand new incremental backup tool for both data and software selection, USB and Windows installers, 3 years support, look & feel improvements," the announcement added.
Highlights of Linux Mint 9 Xfce:
· New Software Manager - completely rewritten, now supports 30,000+ packages;
· New Backup Tool - making it easy to do fresh installs and keep all your data;
· Move to Trash and Delete options in Thunar - new entries in the context and Edit menus;
· Better look and feel - new art including new background images and a new welcome screen;
· Many bugfixes and updated packages;
· All of the new features and enhancements in Xubuntu 10.04 LTS.
Linux Mint 9 Xfce rounds up all of the other official releases that have come out so far, the regular GNOME version, the LXDE and the KDE versions. That leaves just Linux Mint 9 Fluxbox still in release candidate form.
Linux Mint 9 Xfce gets all of the common new features along with all of the updates in Xubuntu 10.04, which aren't a few. There aren't that many specific changes though.
